The Paradise Seeds research and development program has been looking for an indica hybrid with unique qualities and Californian Gold is it! We have taken a trip down memory lane with this variety, released to commemorate legalization in the Golden State, picking out some old school classic Californian genetics and giving them a turbo boost to produce something very special.
Lineage
This strain is the result of a combination of some heritage genetics taken from the Paradise Seeds library. Californian Gold cannabis seeds carry genes from an Afghani female and a male developed through the Paradise in-house breeding which has elements of original US Skunk and South Asian indica. The result is a real indica heavyweight which is worth its weight in gold.
Aromas and Flavours
The predominant scent is tropical – a mouth watering sweet citrus pungency, with tones of lemon and mango – reflecting its Limonene and Myrcene heavy terpene profile. As such this is a very tasty treat for any connoisseur with a sweet taste that invites you to come back for more.
Cultivation
Difficulty Level: Medium
Indoors: Californian Gold lives up to its name in the grow department, an easy going addition to the indoor grow setup. It is a bushy plant, robust with thick stems and big leaves, and is very pleasing to grow. In terms of production, smell and flavor this plant comes with the full package. For the indoor grower, its medium size makes it a good companion for the grow room, especially one where height is an issue. The quick flower time and dependable yield are two further qualities to recommend this variety and production is characterized by large buds that are compact and oozing with resin.
Outdoors: In the garden, Californian Gold will naturally thrive in warmer climates, where the sun will make those characteristically large indica buds swell. However, the hybrid nature of this plant makes it a reasonable adapter to the cooler climates of more northern regions.
Yield and Presentation
Characteristically indica in its growth pattern – thick and bushy this plant has a relatively quick finish time. The exceptionally oily nature of the chunky Californian Gold buds owes much to the strain’s genetic makeup and the legendary hash making qualities of the Indian subcontinent in the mix. As the flowering stage approaches its conclusion the resin heavy buds often appear to ooze honey.

Effect
Recreational: A popular strain since it was released thanks to its high THC content (not a strain for the novice) and potent effect which delivers full body relaxation without losing the head in an indica fog. A great strain for unwinding at the end of the day and letting the stresses and strains melt away.
Medical: A very popular choice with medical users who are comfortable with high THC levels. The super relaxation effect of this strain give it excellent pain relief qualities and also a good aid to combat sleep insomnia.

Suitable for growing outside between 50º n.L. and 50º s.L., Californian Gold will finish in early October outdoors (n.L.) and after 8 – 9 weeks indoors. Estimated yield is 500 g per m² indoors / 750 g per plant outdoors.
